Melissa Malone-Soutuyo
Dance has always been a big part of my life. Classically trained since age 4, I enjoy dancing all styles and continue to do so for various dance companies in my community. I often dance to benefit various charities including the Muscular Dystrophy Associate and American Cancer Society. My son is a budding hip hop dancer and even my husband has been known to make a cameo appearance or two on the dance stage.
As captain of my college softball team, softball and baseball have always been my favorite sports. My dad coached me when I was growing up and I am excited to continue that tradition as my husband and I have coached our son’s Little League baseball team together.
Though we live in the city and tend to keep a hectic schedule, one of the greatest things about living in Maine, is the ability to get out of the city and spend time at our family’s camp on the lake. It’s belonged to my family for 60 years and is our favorite sanctuary. It is the place we go to relax, spend time together, enjoy nature and make some of our best family memories.
For my son’s First Communion community service project last year, he chose to “serve the poor”. Not only did we enjoy ways as a family to do this in our own home community, but we now also have a “sponsor son” from an indigent community in Peru that we support, communicate with regularly and hope to visit someday in the near future.
